Kathy Sorenson

Kathy Sorenson

Kathy Sorenson, founder and financial coach

Raised on a farm in a small town in South Dakota, Kathy learned from a young age the importance of hard work through the ups and downs of living on a family owned and operated farm.  Since moving away from the farm and to the city, she has realized that as well as being a hard working business owner, her dad was also living out his passion of the love of animals and the land.

Kathy decided in fifth grade that she wanted to pursue accounting because she wanted to help people use numbers to make good decisions.  Also having a deep passion for music, she found herself at a University where she could pursue both.  After graduating with a BS in Accounting, Kathy moved to the Twin Cities to find a job and never looked back.  Over the past 15 years, she has experienced a short stint in public accounting but soon moving to manufacturing where she would find her home in cost accounting, financial analysis and business controllership.  These experiences capped by the pursuit of an MBA have allowed for follow through on her hope at 12 years old of helping people use numbers to make business decisions in the corporate arena.

Kathy felt a pull to take those experiences learned in the corporate world to a new arena to provide a template for managing money to those in the small business and personal realm.  This is where JoyStone Financial was born.

Joystones are your true “stones” (strengths, passions, interests) that evoke pure joy.  Kathy is honored to use her joystones of financial analysis, money management and helping others to allow you more time to pursue your own personal joystones.

Sorenson Family

Sorenson Family

Other than finance, Kathy’s joystones include family.  She lives in Champlin, MN with her husband, Mike and two children Landon and Victoria and two cats Jossee and Almond.  Other joystones she explores include music, watching football, coffee and visiting craft breweries.

Kathy has been trained by Ramsey Solutions as a Financial Coach. This extensive training addresses the deeply personal connection to money and allows her to meet you wherever you may be in your financial journey. She is also a member of the American Association of Daily Money Managers (AADMM) and a member of the Minneapolis Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Board of Directors.

What are JoyStones™?

What are Joystones?

Joystones are the gifts that we have been given that in turn bring us as well as others joy

This is the place where our strengths and talents come together with our passions.  Joystones are what you love, what you are good at and what you know you are called to do.  Joystones may include spending time with those you love, using your strengths at your current job, pursuing your dream of owning your own business, volunteering more of your time or maybe finally starting that blog you have been dreaming about.

All of us have joystones, but not all of us have the time or finances to pursue them to the fullest extent.  This is where JoyStone Financial comes in. JoyStone Financial is here to use our joystones of finance and support to help support you in the pursuit of your JoyStones.  Let us provide you with the tools and be your personal cheerleading for making your dreams a reality.

- What is financial coaching?

Financial coaching bridges the gap between financial information and empowerment, giving you the skills to change your life and the life of future generations.

No problem. Contact us for a free 30 minute initial consultation call. This will allow time to discuss what your needs are and compare them to what is offered. - I'm married and my spouse is not sure if he or she is ready to commit to the process. Will you still work with me?

In general, financial coaching and budgeting works best when both are on board. No matter if accounts are separate or joint, this process works best when a couple works together as a team.

- What results can I expect?

JoyStone Financial is very passionate about providing the support necessary to get your finances in order so that you can experience your true joystones.
